What IS an ipod? Part 3: Under the display buttons

The growing popularity of the ipod forced Apple to go back to the drawing boards and try and come out with something new for their ever so popular Apple ipod.

The 3rd Gen ipods are the most different looking of them all(not counting the 4th and 5th gen of course). It had four buttons under the display, rather than having the buttons circling the click wheel.

The memory for these pods were 15gb and 30gb. Later bumped up to 20gb and 40gb.

These new ipods also had a smaller battery life in order to make the battery smaller, thus making the ipod thinner. This gen ipod also had a different port for synching and charging it up. It was Firewire and USB compatible for the first time.

This model is also the first to be universally usable by Macs AND PCs. The release date for the 3rd gen ipod was April 2003.
